Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Outfielder Mike Trout is unable to get insurance to play in the World Baseball Classic

Why It Matters

Trout will not be participating in the World Baseball Classic for Team USA because of inability to get his major league contract covered by insurance. Trout had one home run and seven RBIs in seven games in 2023 in getting Team USA to the final game which they lost to Japan. Trout has not played more than 130 games for the Angels in five years. Houston Astros star players Carlos Correa and Jose Altuve were denied coverage to play for Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
