Why It Matters

Demidov’s agent Dan Millstein told the Montreal Gazette that the 9.15 million dollar cap hit was of his own choosing. Demidov wanted to sign a long term contract extension as soon as he could and accepted less money to save the Habs cap space on it. Demidov signed the contract extension on Canada day which at the time looked like a team friendly discount. We have since found out that Demidov intentionally want the Habs to hav the cap space to load up with more talent. Demidov lead all NHL rookies with 62 points in 82 games last season.
