The CFL has announced initiatives for national day for truth and reconciliation

Why It Matters

The CFL logo has been indigenized for Truth and Reconciliation weeks. In consultation with national chief Woodhouse Nepinak as well as three indigenous artists the logo features turtle island illustrated on each letter with the C designed by someone from the west coast, the F designed by someone from central Canada and the L designed by someone from the east coast. The red grey and black in the CFL logo stay mostly as is with a warm yellow added and divided into the four quadrants of the medicine wheel. Players will wear orange and white warmup jerseys featuring their teams’ indigenized logos. The footballs will have orange laces as well as each team’s indigenized logo. O Canada will be performed in indigenous languages, indigenous leaders and people and residential school victims will be honoured at CFL games.
